Fall 2021 Season- RBO Returns to the Lake!

Registration for our in-person Fall 2021 season is here! We are so excited to welcome all of your smiling faces back to the lake very soon.

As you know, COVID-19 cases are back on the rise. Ultimately, it is our priority to keep everyone safe, so that we can continue to enjoy the RBO seasons we all know and love for years to come. In order to hold a safe fall season, we are taking extra precautions closely aligned with Alameda County guidelines, as well as those of the Oakland Unified School District.

For the Fall 2021 season, masks will be required for all participants. We will have buffs available for those in need of a face covering. Additionally, we will require all volunteers to be fully vaccinated and ready to show proof of their vaccine prior to running with us. This includes any parents who will need to register as a volunteer if they wish to practice with us.

  • Weekly practices every Saturday @ 9am

  • Start dates:

    • September 4 (K-5th only)

    • September 11 (all students)

  • Location: Lake Merritt, starting at Snow Park


Did somebody say free race swag?

Yes! Our fall season includes all of your favorite races (and race medals!), just like in years past. Race entries are free for all RBO registered participants. Our weekly practices will prepare you for:

  • LMJS 4th Sunday Run (Sept. 26)

  • East Bay 510k/Hellaween (Oct. 30)

  • Oakland Turkey Trot (Nov. 25)

    *all races are currently tentative


You mentioned COVID-19 guidelines? What are they?

  • Masks are required for all participants

  • Proof of vaccination required for volunteers and RBO staff

    • To submit your proof of vaccination, please email a photo of your vaccination card to Program Director Edward after registering. We kindly ask that you cover your date of birth on your vaccination card for privacy purposes.

    • The state of California now offers digital copies of your vaccination card. You can get yours here.

    • If you are uncomfortable sending your card via email, we can verify your vaccination in-person as well. Just let us know.

  • At practice, students will likely be divided into smaller pods, with each pod led by a few coaches and run mentors. This process is still in the works, so please let us know if you have any other suggestions. We welcome your feedback and ideas! We want to make sure everyone feels comfortable and safe at practice.

  • All new and returning volunteers must also complete a background check.

    • Note: A volunteers/coaches training will be held on Sept. 2nd at 6:30pm on Zoom
