RBO Internship

Running for a Better Oakland / Elements / RBO Internship

Running for a Better Oakland (RBO) internship is designed to provide students with exposure to various areas within the sporting events industry. We are seeking summer interns to work in our sports event planning and production department. This role is open to RBO Youth Runners and Green Shirts. You will help organize and manage a variety of events including run practices, fairs, and festivals. The positions require enthusiasm, passion and hard work, but will be fun and filling!

Running for a Better Oakland is a non-profit organization 501(c)(3) that encourages Kindergarten through 12th grade Oakland students to develop healthy lifestyles through running. By building confidence, setting goals, providing training and mentorship, RBO promotes the values of hard work and achievement that students can draw upon in all areas of their lives. RBO also develops friendships, involves parents, and strengthens the local community. The organization operates a Fall, Spring, and Summer program. In the Fall, students train for local 5K events; and, in the Spring, they train for the Oakland Running Festival 5K or Half Marathon, while the summer focuses on trail running. RBO also offers scholarships to college-bound high school seniors. With the generous help of our volunteers, we train and mentor over 300 students a year.  RBO has increased its fundraising and budget over the last 3 years and has a strong network of enthusiastic volunteers.

RBO strives to build a tolerant, healthy and prosperous community by empowering students, parents, and volunteers; creating new relationships; and developing trust, and self-esteem through the discipline and rigors of a structured running program.
